Weddings in India is not a one-day affair. There is Mehendi, Sangeet before the Wedding and Reception and parties after it. The most beautiful day in any girl’s life is her Wedding day and she has to look her best. So the would-be bride should try different looks for the pre and post-wedding functions as well.
Mehendi
A saree or an elegant churidhar kameez is apt for the occasion. It can be stitched in any cut or style, no matter whatever be your body type. Choose dark colors as the whole day is for applying henna and you don’t want to spoil your clothes with henna. Maroon, wine red, chocolate and similar colors will be good. Choose the colour that suits you. The fabric should be comfortable as you have to sit for long time wearing the same. Chiffon or organza will be good. It’s better to avoid wearing jewellery on hands and feet as mehendi has to be applied. Wear simple flat footwear and you can wear earrings and necklace as jewellery. A Diamond pendant or pearl necklace will be good. Do fresh makeup preferably in shades of pink.
Sangeet
This is a fun event with music and dancing. So you have to wear comfortable clothes, footwear and jewellery. Wearing saree is good but only if you can dance and freely move around in it. Otherwise a lehenga choli (gagra choli) would be nice. Salwar kameez with straps and backless choli will be stunning, only if you are comfortable in the same. Pink, orange, yellow, green or blue colors are good for the dress. Chiffon, georgette or net fabrics can be used for the same. Flat sandals are still preferred more than high heels as its good for your feet and avoid chances of tripping while dancing or walking around. Use vibrant makeup and pink lipstick will be good. Wear colorful jewellery or statement jewellery.
The Wedding Day
There is no need to mention that everything should look perfect this day. It’s the day when you are the bride. A thousand people will be there to see your look alone including your friends, relatives and others so look stunning. A traditional embroidered lehenga choli with brocade will be good. Red is the usual and most preferred but experimenting with other colors will be good. Go for matching jewellery, the best bridal makeup and good hair do. Dark eye makeup and bright lipstick will be good, but do not wear heavy makeup and let your jewellery stand out. Wear silk/ satin footwear to match your overall style. You should have a collection of wedges, flip flops etc. in gold / silver colors as you plan for this day itself.
Wedding Reception
This is a post-wedding function as the new bride. So you have to meet your new family and you have to look beautiful. A lehenga-saree will be a good choice. Hand-embroidered silk dress with stone jewellery will give you an awesome look. Wear fresh makeup in pink or peach shades. Since the most time, you will be standing, its better to wear platform heels or wedges.
