Top 10 Homework Tips for Parents

Every kid might need a bit of help from their parents in doing homework especially if they are young. That helps them feel important. It will even help you learn and refresh old basics.

Here are a few tips to help them in their homework.

•    Acquaint with their teachers: It would be good to have a good relationship with your kid’s teachers so that they will take care of your kids at school. Try to attend Parent teacher meetings so that you can meet your kid’s teachers. Attend other school events like anniversary. It will make your child happy too. So you can understand what they are learning and how to approach their homework.

•    Arrange their room and create a place to do homework. Keep it well-lit and keep all they need such as paper, glue, pencils and scissors in well-proximity.

•    Keep a study time scheduled. Understand which time is best for your child to study, afternoon or night.

•    Encourage and help your kids in making a study plan. Divide homework and schedule according to time to reduce heavy load. Include breaks and give them refreshments.

•    Keep TV off or watch in low volume if TV is far from study room. Avoid loud music and go out to make phone calls. Tell them not to watch TV or hear music and only study during study time and to make only necessary phone calls.

•    Kids should be able to do their own work. Don’t do homework for them but only give directions and suggestions. They will learn only through doing themselves, making mistakes and learning from them.

•    Motivate them, also monitor. Ask them about their assignments and tests. Encourage them, check their completed homework and always be there for them.

•    Give good example for your kid. Be a good model. Because they tend to follow you.

•    Appreciate their efforts and work. Note their academic achievements and reward them.

•    If problems with homework continue, get help from the teacher. Some kids may have trouble with vision; others may have some learning problem so find it out and solve the issue with professional help.
